BigBlueButton Becomes Fully Integrated Into Moodle 4.0
Moode HQ, the developers of the World’s most popular LMS, have released Moodle 4.0, an upgrade that significantly enhances and streamlines the user experience for teachers and students. Moodle 4.0 extends Moodle’s support for virtual classrooms by incorporating the integration for BigBlueButton into the core.
According to Moodle HQ, there are over 181,000 Moodle sites worldwide. The integration into core means every school that upgrades to Moodle 4.0 (or later) will have a built-in ability to use BigBlueButton as their virtual classroom at their fingertips.
The BigBlueButton integration for Moodle has already existed as an external plugin for many years. We, Blindside Networks, developed the BigBlueButton plugin and released it in 2013 for Moodle 1.9. From that first version, we steadily improved the integration over the years, enhancing it to take advantage of new features of Moodle.
When the pandemic struck, the demand for Moodle and BigBlueButton increased significantly. According to moodle.org statistics, the plugin was installed in over 20,000 Moodle sites around the world. The plugin is also the 2nd most popular plugin by downloads (according to moodle.org) out of a pool of over 1,400 plugins.
