We have a busy year ahead for conferences and events in 2015 (see: Events). Most of these events are learning and educational technology conferences and we are also an exhibitor. If you are planning to attend any of these events and are interested in BigBlueButton and our services — come visit us at the Blindside Networks booth.
The next event coming up is eLearning Online 2015 in Las Vegas — this is a very friendly conference and one of our favorites to attend.
Blindside Networks updated the Sakai Meeting Tool (BigBlueButton integration) with the following new features
- Wait for moderator (rooms can now be set so students can’t enter until a moderator enters)
- Hide duration
- iCalendar options for notification
- Use the new Sakai editor
Blindside Networks is once again providing commercial support for BigBlueButton to iMoot, the international on-line Moodle Moot.
iMoot 2014 is completely on-line conference with attendees and presenters from all over the world. All 70+ sessions are held on-line using BigBlueButton.
We are providing the hosting for BigBlueButton, support of the staff, and conversion of all BigBlueButton recordings into h.264 videos for later upload to YouTube.
You can the all the recordings from last year’s iMoot 2013 here.
For a while, we’ve offered video files of recordings on our hosted platform for BigBlueButton, as an alternative to the standard HTML5-based format. (Also check out details on our hosted BigBlueButton offering.) Over the past week, some updates have been rolled out.
These changes will apply to all video format recordings going forwards, but existing recordings will not be automatically updated. If you would like to have existing recordings reprocessed with the updated video format, please contact Blindside Networks support by email or via our web form.
Video quality improvements
Improved processing speed
It could take a long time for recordings in the previous video format to show up after the meeting finished. The amount of time saved by the updates varies based on the recording length, slide complexity, etc., but in most cases the video should be ready in about half the time that it previously would have taken.
A few people have noticed that in some videos, the slides area would go blank partway through the recording. We could fix this by reprocessing the recording, but we have now identified the root cause of the issue and it should no longer occur going forwards.
As part of our professional hosting for BigBlueButton we also create video files of the recording. These video files are playback on the desktop and on iOS and Andriod devices (phones and tablets). The playback of a video includes the chat messages to the right.
Here’s a link to a sample video payback of a BigBlueButton session.
When you sign up for Blindside Networks Hosting, you get this playback format in addition to the default ‘presentation’ format in BigBlueButton. For more information, contact us directly.
We are pleased to announce that BigBlueButton 0.81 has reached beta. This release represents over twelve months of development, with a focus to add features while at the same time making the product easier to use.
See the beta announcement for more details.
We have been developing and supporting the BigBlueButtonBN integration for Moodle 1.9 and 2.x for over two years now. Most recently, when BigBlueButton 0.80 was released with support with record and playback, we updated the Moodle 2.x integration to support creation of recorded meetings from within Moodle.
We’ve received a number of request to update the Moodle 1.9 integration to fully support the record and playback in BigBlueButton 0.80. We’re pleased to announce that a new version of Moodle 1.9 plugin is now available that fully supports the same functionality as in the Moodle 2.x integration.
